Clear night sky exploding with bright stars that guide Czech glassmaking from time immemorial. A tribute to people who touch glass to transform it into beauty. An homage to Karel Čapek, a writer who explored the darkness to find light.

How the Krakatit crystal collection was created

The life of every crystal product begins with the first pencil-sketch. The long process of revision and re-drawing then gives each version a clearer shape. When conceiving the Krakatit collection, designer Rony Plesl found inspiration in one of the most traditional patterns of Czech crystal – a cut star – and re-invented it in a brand new contemporary appearance.

In Rückl Glassworks, each product passes through the hands of dozens of artisans. First, a wooden form is created according to the original design. It serves master glassmakers for achieving the exact shape the designer envisioned. Hand-blown crystal is then cooled for many hours before coming to the hands of our talented cutters. They spend hours manually decorating each vase, cut by cut, just as their ancestors did decades or even centuries ago.

The Krakatit collection pays homage to the mastery of Czech glassmaking. Vases, bowls and drinkware from this collection are decorated by an exceptional star pattern inspired by classic Bohemian cut crystal. Designer Rony Plesl uses traditional craft and glassmaking techniques in an entirely contemporary way, lending the Krakatit collection an atemporal value.
